The Longhorn is on Boulder highway across from the closed and shuttered East Side Cannery and not far from Sam's town.
To go anywhere I would need some transportation.
I have always liked the buses, and in days gone by I had a Vegas Bus Blog where I posted information on routes and fares and opportunities particularly available on “residential buses” which are cheaper and less crowded than strip buses.
I found that the routes of the two buses that would best serve me, the Flamingo 202 and the Boulder Highway Express were pretty much the same as they were when I rode them in my healthier days. The 202 started its route at the bus stop alongside the closed Eastside Cannery. They came regularly. The drivers took a break there, so the bus, or sometimes buses, stood for quite a while, generally long enough for me to cross Boulder from the Longhorn.
I did not have to wait at the bus stop which is a bit isolated, especially at night.
The was great access to the strip.

The BHX stopped just across the street from the Longhorn and a short walk toward Henderson. This was good access for downtown, dropping just behind the D.
I did not know if I would be able to board them, but I found it was not hard at all.
They made for long bus rides of about 40 minutes, but I don't mind that.
The BHX also goes to the BTC in downtown where passes are sold and ID's are issued. I got a new senior ID. With that a residential bus ride is just a dollar, so cheap that sometimes it saved me the walk even to the nearby Sam's Town.
I was smart to bring quarters as these were easier to manipulate into the payslot than dollar bills. My hands do not always work right.
I used to get a fifteen day pass and save more money, but this trip I just thought I would not be up for a bus ride very often, and I did not need any passes. I was right.
A medicare card works just as well as the bus pass for single rides.
There is a very good app for the buses so that their arrival can be predicted perfectly, but I can't seem to get it to work. So, I just did it the old fashioned way, and waited.
The BHX picks up on Carson Street behind the D and down the street a bit for the return trip. There are signs showing the routes served at each stop.
BOULDER STATION AND THE BUS
I went up one night to Boulder Station on the bus to play the 3-6 poker there and perhaps go to The Broiler.
The Broiler closed before I finished poker, so I went out to take a bus home. The only way to do that was to either walk a long, long way to a light and a long, long way back. Or jaywalk.
I never should have jaywalked across Boulder, but I did. I aimed for one of those turning lanes, made the first crossing and rested there, then made the second crossing. And luckily I did not get arrested.
The bus stop itself was pretty deserted and a bit unsettling. I won't use it again.
Perhaps I'll limit going to Boulder to days I am stopping there on my way downtown. That stop is directly in front of the casino.
However, I basically was not attracted to the casino, or the poker.
Next time I may try seeing Arizona Charlie's again. I checked out that area and it seemed the bus stops were more accessible and more populated.
