Here is a note from Peter:

Hi Dewey!
Don't even talk to me about being retired. I want to be retired.
On that trip, we flew into Las Vegas and rented a car. We stayed with
you guys at the casino for a couple of days. Then we drove to Grand
Canyon (South Rim). We took the most direct route -- main highways, etc.
The drive over was fun. One thing I remember was we saw a sign to a town
called Chloride. We couldn't believe a town would have a name like that
so we went and checked it out. It was very interesting, in a funky sort
of way.

At the canyon, we stayed at Maswik Lodge, which is one of the lodges
right in the park. It's about a mile from the rim. As I remember, it was
one of the few open at that time of year. It was fine, relaxed, pretty
cheap. We enjoyed it.

During our full day at the canyon, we drove along the rim and stopped
here and there for short walks down a little ways and back.
On the way back, for a change, we took historic Rt 66.

That was interesting because it takes you through Indian reservations,
which Judy wanted to see. She was surprised and amazed by the no-joke
poverty here in the great US of A.
Then we were back with you.

Interesting that Peter mentions Chloride. I think that was a recommended stop by my friend Robin and that Frank from London and I stopped there and walked around the funky little town, seeing the old jail and some odd houses. We enjoyed it, but I can't really tell why. When Frank responds, I'll ask him.
